SANTA CRUZ, Calif.
— A man has died after a truck slammed into him on a highway in Santa Clarita, California, police said Friday.
The accident happened around 7 p.m.
Friday on Interstate 80 near the San Luis Obispo County line, Santa Cruz police said in a news release.
Authorities were looking for two other men who were driving a pickup truck, Santa Claritas Police Chief Daniel O’Donnell said.
They were wearing helmets.
The truck was traveling eastbound on the I-80 bridge when it went through a red light and hit a tree.
The driver of the pickup was killed, and his passenger, also a Santa Claritsian, suffered serious injuries, according to O’Connor.
The truck driver was taken to a hospital in Santa Barbara and was expected to survive, O’Neill said.
No one else was injured in the crash, Santa Clara County Fire Department Lt.
Andrew Brown said.
The pickup driver was also not wearing a helmet.
