4Runner Off Road, a new off-road road, is currently under construction along California’s Rivers Road.
The new road will bring the 4Runner brand’s River Drive into the 21st century.
The road is slated to open in 2018.
The four-lane road will be built over a stretch of the Rivers Road between the city of Santa Cruz and the San Luis Obispo Valley.
The proposed 4Runner-branded road is expected to provide approximately 2.4 million square feet of parkland.
The first 4Runner off-roader will be a small SUV.
It will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can produce 300 horsepower.
The 4Runner will offer an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
The planned 4Runner route will include a 4-mile section from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Santa Cruz River Valley, according to the press release.
4Runner is a division of 4Runner USA, which also manufactures the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Renegade.
The California Department of Transportation, the state’s public transportation agency, is overseeing the project.
